Research

I’m an art historian, but my research interests also lead me towards sociology and philosophy. In my Master’s thesis I wrote about art and provocation, focusing on the reception of certain art works that have offended the public.

My Doctorate research is about artist grants and organizations that promote visual arts. I focus mainly on the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland, as there are a number of very wealthy foundations that support the culture of this language minority. The Doctorate thesis is due to be finished in 2013, and I am currently employed through The Finnish Doctoral Programme in Art History. Key concepts in my thesis are power, organization, field of art and symbolic capital, social systems, intra-action and entanglements.

I mainly teach in Swedish and in areas spanning the Modern era of art history, Sociology of arts and images, Gender perspectives on art and art history, Art theory.

Recent conference papers:
“Art things in a sociological landscape – Ecology and entanglements of organizations, artists and artworks”, at Imagining Spaces and Places, Helsinki 24-27.8.2011.
Conference paper for the 6th ICCPR: “Are there Finland-Swedish artists?”, presented 27.8.2010 in Jyväskylä.
