About

jenny06I have been drawing, writing stories and curiously exploring the world since I was a child, and I started selling illustrations already in my teens. One of my first big jobs was making sixty botanical drawings for an educational radio series when I was nineteen years old.

I am especially interested in how visual art and storytelling can enhance learning and understanding by being both clear and emotionally striking at the same time.

For any kind of product or message it is important to stand out from the crowd. Beautiful, unique visuals and powerful storytelling are key. If you are interested in collaborations you can reach me at info@jennywiik.com

WORK EXPERIENCE

I’ve worked as an illustrator since 1997, and for a wide range of companies and organizations. I’ve done editorial illustration, illustrations for education, fashion and beauty, logos, cards, posters, portraits, illustrations for fantasy and science fiction stories, books and most recently game art and drawings for animations about medieval history.

I also work with writing, mainly in Swedish, and have written academic articles (also peer reviewed), art criticism (visual art, cinema, poetry, fiction, comics and graphic novels), journalistic reportages and interviews, and creative fiction (books and games).

My first novel, that I both wrote and illustrated, was published 2012 (Bildbindaren, Schildts & Söderströms).

I’m also freelancing as a text editor and proofreader in Swedish. For editing projects or language consulting you can contact me directly. Read more about my text work in Swedish here.

I’ve also worked as a researcher (writing a Doctoral thesis) and university teacher in Art history between 2004 and 2013, specializing in Sociology and Economy of arts, Visual Culture, Gender Studies and the modern period of Art history.

I studied for a second Master’s degree in Leadership and Service Design at Novia and Turku University of Applied Sciences (2015–). My Master’s thesis will be published in December 2022, with the title “A service perspective on the Resourceful children project – Service design as a catalyst for innovation in a research and development project in ECEC and child protection”. As part of the degree program I learned design thinking, service design methods and tools, marketing and branding and future studies.

PERSONAL

I’m Finnish-Swedish, born in 1978. I have three children born between 2005 and 2014, and I live in Turku, Finland. Some of my children have  special needs (autism spectrum), so I am very familiar with the challenges of living with neurodivergence and mental health issues.
